On May 24, 2009 Erie’s Downtown will host the Michelob Ultra Downtown Erie Criterium 2009, a bicycling and healthy lifestyle event to benefit the Achievement Center. This is a USA Cycling sanctioned event on a six corner 0.6 mile route on a closed, flat, and very fast circuit. Continued here..

The Erie County Recycling Program (ECRP) has received approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) to open a centralized recycling convenience center located at 1556 West 12th Street. The center, scheduled to open May 9th at 9:00am, will provide Erie residents a safe and responsible means to recycle electronic (E-waste) and household hazardous waste (HHW) from their homes. The Recycling Convenience Center will be open from 9:00am to 3:00pm the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from April thru October. Continued here...

For the first time in nearly 40 years, the City of Erie will compete for the title of All-America City. The All-America City Award recognizes communities across the country for civic engagement, collaboration, inclusiveness, and innovation. Each year, only ten cities are selected as All-America Cities. The award is a program of the National Civic League, a non-profit, non-partisan organization founded in 1894 to strengthen citizen democracy by transforming democratic institutions. Continued here...
